What the hell? Tate James set up this big dramatic Book 3 conclusion and then immediately destabilised it, like she’d gotten bored of it, and we just learn in a throwaway paragraph that Steele got taken to hospital. Then we got to Chapter 2… and suddenly she’s trying on wedding dresses?!?! I genuinely flipped back and forth wondering if my copy was missing pages.

Example A: Steele was shot at the end of Book 3, right? So obviously, Chapter 1 of Book 4 is MK crying all over him and stuff. ❌ At the beginning, the chapters were really weird and all over the place. I’m just going to go through all of my points in chronological order, because I’m super disappointed and I don’t want to spend any more time thinking about this book than absolutely necessary. Cue lots of killing, etc, a painfully bad climax, and a weak ending. Madison Kate (MK) is still being stalked by a murderous psychopath, who wants to take out her men and have her all to himself. Wow, there are some depressing things in this book. Not to mention a whole host of other things which mean that, no matter how much I wish I could, I can’t in good conscience give this book 4 stars. If a war is what it takes, then a war is what they’ll get. This is my life, dammit, and these guys are mine to keep. No matter how much I’ve fought it, hated it, been lied to or discovered the deceptions-I want them in my life. Hate fueled me, lies tore me apart, and in the end everything I thought I knew turned out to be fake.Įxcept… Riot Night also brought Archer, Kody, and Steele back into my life. I’ve been hunted, stabbed, stalked, tormented, and used. The twist here is that Tate recognized that this was a chance to run for Governor himself. Tate ended up getting the nomination and, following that, learned the truth about Dre’s death.Coming back to Shadow Grove turned it on its head. What we saw in the aftermath of the shooting was Steven Ott and Lorette Walsh coming to Tate’s home and begging him to join the campaign again. What is kinda crazy is seeing Tate’s speech right outside of Truth - somehow, this guy manages to turn on the politics right now. Interestingly, Tate’s brother was the only one who felt like he could’ve had a role in everything that happened. He was having to deal with the death of Carter when the shot was fired at Truth. Yet, he didn’t kill Ghost - that was confirmed when we realized that he was actually at the police station with his brother. What we’re trying to say here is that Tate had plenty of reasons to kill Ghost - his motives were off the charts.

After Carter dies, we then saw Blanca pass along the bad news - there was no way to ensure Ghost would be behind bars. Were it not for Tate’s brother shooting him, everything would’ve gone so much worse.

Croop died, and soon after that, Carter wanted a little bit of revenge. The problem with Croop and Carter is that they didn’t realize that Tommy was there and they found themselves in a shootout.
